Building Dreams, One Child at a Time

This week at Sembrando Paz y Esperanza, I was once again reminded why I do what I do. Every day, I see the resilience of the children in our program, and each small victory fills me with hope.

One moment that stood out to me happened on Monday. A little boy, no older than eight, came running up to me with a huge smile. “Look, Sara!” he shouted, holding up his notebook. He had written his first full sentence in English. It was a simple phrase—“I am happy.” But to me, it meant everything.

These children, many of whom have faced incredibly difficult situations, still find reasons to smile, learn, and dream. They are living proof that Comuna 13 is not a place of violence, but a place of strength, transformation, and opportunity.

This week, I also worked on organizing documents for new children joining the program. It’s a lot of paperwork, but every signature represents another child who now has a safe space to grow, play, and believe in a better future. Seeing their excitement to be here makes all the effort worth it.

As I walked home one evening, I reflected on how much this work has changed my life. These children have been my healing. When I went through difficult moments, they taught me that even in the darkest times, hope can grow. And when we choose to fight for others, we don’t just transform their lives—we transform our own as well.

Looking ahead, we have many activities planned—new lessons, games, and of course, football training with Diego, who never stops inspiring these kids with his dedication.

Thank you for being part of this journey. If you ever doubt that change is possible, spend a day with these kids. You’ll see what I see every day—hope, resilience, and the future of Comuna 13 shining brighter than ever.

Until next week,
🌿 Sara 🌿
